Reaction to Steve Jobs Salary

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs received a salary of $1 last year, according to documents filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Steve Jobs
Since returning in 1997 to the helm of the company he co-founded and catapulting Apple to record profits, the legendary Silicon Valley executive has opted to get only a token paycheck.

But as of March 20, Jobs, 52, still owns more than 5.4 million in restricted shares, worth about $496 million at Monday's closing stock price.

It is interesting to see Jobs' salary for leading one of the most innovative tech companies on the planet. Could it be that he gains most of his satisfaction from the "hunt" i.e. just being in the game? Is he satisfied with the millions that he has made over the years? Or is it that he receives so many other "perks" from the job that he doesn't need a salary more than $1.00?

I think that, while all of the above is true of Mr. Jobs, he truly is in it for the glory and satisfaction of leading one of the most innovative companies in the world. I believe that he finds joy in having his name associated to the fun stuff that Apple has created.
